Rural Dermatology

Description

This elective takes place at the Louisville clinic. Third-year students gain experience in the evaluation and treatment of the twenty most common dermatologic conditions encountered in the rural setting. Utilizing a team-based approach, students gain increasing responsibility for obtaining histories, describing physical findings, synthesizing a differential diagnosis, and contributing toward the treatment plan at a level appropriate to the student's training level. Students have exposure to procedures such as KOH & scabies preparations, local anesthesia, shave & punch biopsies, surgical excisions, and suturing.
