Surgery Outpatient Wound Care

Description

This is an elective surgery rotation where fourth year medical students will gain experience in outpatient chronic wound care. This ambulatory core or elective is designed to expose fourth year medical students to outpatient chronic wound care. The student will be in the outpatient wound care clinic from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday working with our full time wound care physician, nurse practitioner or surgeon. The student will evaluate the patient to determine medical history that is contributing to the chronic wound, as well as, learn wound evaluation, diagnostic testing, diagnosis and management of the wound. The student will also become competent in dressing selection to aid the wound in healing.
